I think I've figured it out.

In Windows 7.. at least.. Right Click on a blank area on your desktop sceen.

   Click on last detail "Personalize"

On this screen "Windows Color and Advent"...  go down to the "Detail"

window and curlicue to have "Desktop" displayed in the window.

To the Right you will see "Color 1".. and a square with a color .. or white.

If y'all desire a dark colored font... now mind carefully... click the black area

          and select a LIGHT color.

                 Try WHITE for starters.

Now go to your desktop and the font color should be black....

I haven't tried other colors.   Accept fun!!

       Regards..

Actually Nirajan? You're going to link him to another "solution" that does not fifty-fifty apply to the question he asked? He conspicuously said Windows 10, non windows 7. This is why information technology's so frustrating posting on these forums.

RogerDickey, I (like millions of others) take had the same issue. In windows ten the desktop icon font is "dynamic" which ways it'due south automatically chosen based on the color of your groundwork epitome. Windows samples a color (from which part, I'yard not entirely positive) from your desktop background and then automatically chooses the color to apply for font. This is ridiculous for And then many obvious reasons, main i existence it about always chooses the verbal same colour every bit your wallpaper. Thank you Microsoft. At least in previous versions of windows, when font color was automatically chosen, it would use a slight driblet shadow to brand it visible against same-color wallpapers. Not the case with windows 10, it seems.

What you'll take to do, is right-click your desktop background, and select Personalize.

Then, change your background type from "Picture" to "Solid Color". Choose Orangish (this will change your icon font to black). Then, immediately alter your desktop background back to Pic, selecting your wallpaper of choice. The color should remain black now. Worked for me, hopefully information technology works for you too!

Windows x  Icon Text Not Showing on a White Groundwork.

If you have a white background and exercise non want to use High Contrast Settings ( considering they change a lot of other things), try this solution that did work for me.

When I changed my background color to white past using a white image ( jpeg) as my wallpaper, my icons showed, only none of the identifying text showed considering the icon text was also White.

This is what worked;  Settings>Ease of Access > Other Options>Visual Options>Play Animations In Windows

When I toggle that setting ( either way ) if my desktop icons were not showing, they now appear with a black outline, which makes them readable.

Oddball solution, but I tested it several times before posting hither.  Promise it helps someone.

Thanks, GoinAn. This fixed it for me. I haven't checked to see if the settings stay the same afterwards a restart yet, only for now your solution worked. At present I tin use wallpapers that incorporate lighter colors and still be able to see what's on my desktop. Now if only Microsoft would bring back the plethora of custom font colors that nosotros oasis't had since, what was information technology? Windows 98? XP? Information technology sure wasn't in 7.

Either way, thanks for being ameliorate than Microsoft back up.
